Did you ever wonder what happened during that period of time between the closing of the "old testament' and the start of the "new"? Well, it happened that a ruler who knew not YHWH sent a death decree for all who would NOT renounce YHWH, the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob. What did it look like to NOT renounce Him? Those who stood for God refused to forsake and destroy the Torah, they clung to His set apart days including His 7th day, they refused to eat pig flesh and they refused to worship like the pagans around them.
This is the story of Channukkah.
Why would we think it would look any different today to NOT renounce Him?
